Frankfort is a village in Ross County, Ohio, United States, along the North Fork of Paint Creek. The population was 1,064 at the 2010 census. Frankfort was originally called Oldtown, and under the latter name was laid out in 1816. A post office called Old Town was established in 1817, and the name was changed to Frankfort in 1834. The village is located at 39°2420N 83°1056W (39.405687, -83.182219).According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.56 square miles (1.45 km²), all land. The town is served by the Adena Local School System, a K-12 public school. The school is located in the town of Adena, which is in the northern part of Ross County and is located on the Ohio Turnpike. It is the only school in the county, with a total enrollment of about 1,000. The local high school is Adena High School, which has a enrollment of around 1,100 students. The high school has an average enrollment of approximately 1,200 students, making it one of the smallest high schools in the state. History

Frankfort was originally called Oldtown, and under the latter name was laid out in 1816. A post office called Old Town was established in 1817, and the name was changed to Frankfort in 1834. Frankfort was incorporated as a village in 1827. It is located on the Ohio River, which runs through the center of the town. The town has a population of about 2,000. It has been the site of the U.S. Civil War and the Battle of the Bulge, which took place in 1864. It was also the location of the First World War Battle of Gettysburg, which occurred in 1871 and 1872. The city's name was first used as a place of business in the 17th century, when it was known as "Old Town" The town is now known as Frankfort, with the name being changed to the current name in 18 34. It also has a post office, which was established as Old Town in 18 17. The name Frankfort is now used to refer to the town's central business district, which is called "Frankfort" It is also known as the "Heart of the City" because it is located in the heart of the city and was once called "The Heart of the Town" It was the birthplace of Frankfort's founder, William Frankfort.
