Frankfort was originally called Oldtown, and under the latter name was laid out in 1816. A post office called Old Town was established in 1817, and the name was changed to Frankfort in 1834. The town is served by the Adena Local School System, a K-12 public school. History

Frankfort was originally called Oldtown, and under the latter name was laid out in 1816. A post office called Old Town was established in 1817, and the name was changed to Frankfort in 1834. Frankfort was incorporated as a village in 1827. It is located on the Ohio River, which runs through the center of the town. The town has a population of about 2,000. It has been the site of the U.S. Civil War and the Battle of the Bulge, which took place in 1864. It was also the location of the First World War Battle of Gettysburg, which occurred in 1871 and 1872. The city's name was first used as a place of business in the 17th century, when it was known as "Old Town" The town is now known as Frankfort, with the name being changed to the current name in 18 34. It also has a post office, which was established as Old Town in 18 17.
