Orem is a city in Utah County, Utah, United States, in the northern part of the state. It is adjacent to Provo, Lindon, and Vineyard and is approximately 45 miles (72 km) south of Salt Lake City. Orem is one of the principal cities of the Provo-Orem, Utah Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Utah and Juab counties. The 2020 population was 98,129, while the 2010 population was 88,328 making it the fifth-largest city inUtah. The city is renowned for the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival, and its Summerfest celebration and parade in June is a popular local attraction. The 2000 Census counted 84,324 people, 23,382 households, and 19,079 families. The 2010 Census counted 88,112 residents, with a racial and ethnic composition of 89.3% white, 0.9% black or African American, 1.6% Asian, and 0.5% Pacific Islanders. This contrasts with the census of 2000, which showed a racial makeup of 90.80% White,0.33% African American, 0.73% Native American, 1.45% Asian, 3.86% Pacific Islander, 3.64% from other races, and 2.18% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.56% of the population. About 97% of all citizens of Orem are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
History
Orem is the primary city name, but also Vineyard are acceptable city names or spellings, Bonnie, Bunker, Clyde, Lakeview on the other hand no longer accepted or obsolete and are no longer used as a designation. The official name is Orem, Utah. Orem was incorporated on May 5, 1919. In 1914 it was named after Walter C. Orem, President of the Salt Lake and Utah Railroad in the early 1900s. The area was known as Sharon, a Biblical name for a mostly level strip of land running between mountains and the sea, and the name of the Vermont birth town of Joseph Smith, founder of the Latter Day Saint movement. In an apparent attempt to attract more investment to the town and provide an easy way for the large population of farmers with orchards to ship produce, in 1914 the town was named Orem. The town is now home to the Brigham Young University, the University of Utah, and Brigham Young Medical Center. The Orem area was once known as the Provo Bench area, after Provo, Utah, which was the home of Brigham Young's father, Brigham Young, and his grandfather, Joseph Smith. It is now known as Orem and the Orem Canyon area, which is home to Orem Lake and Orem Falls. It was once called Sharon, after Sharon, the Biblical name of a land between the sea and the mountains, and also the name for the town where Joseph Smith was born. The name Orem was adopted in 1914 in an attempt to encourage more investment in the area. The city was incorporated in 1919 and is now located in the U.S. state of Utah. It has a population of about 2,000 people, mostly farmers and ranchers.

Orem was the site of the first Mormon temple, built in 1778, and is now home to a Mormon community. It is also the location of several Mormon burial grounds, including Orem Cemetery, which dates back to the 17th century. The town has a population of 2,000. Education
Utah Valley University is a public university operated by the state of Utah. UVU is the largest and fastest growing public university in Utah with its attendance of over 34,000 undergraduates. The campus's notable features include the UCCU Center, the Digital Learning Center library, the Hal Wing Track and Field Complex, and the Woodbury School of Business. The Roots of Knowledge stained glass display is located in the Fulton Library on campus. Stevens-Henager College is also located in Orem, as is an education center of Utah State University. The Alpine School District is home to three high schools, three junior high schools and 14 elementary schools. The school district is also home to a number of private schools, including Orem High School and Orem Christian School. The high school is the only one in the district that is not part of the Utah Valley School District, which is the state's largest school district. The college district is the second-largest in the state, after the University of Utah, with a total enrollment of more than 30,000 students. The department was once known as Satellite Software International [SSI], and was headquartered in the City offices. It was at one time, when first named Satellite Software international [SSi], headquartered in a basement in the O Rem City offices, and was known as SSI-Orem. It is now known as Orem police station, and is located in the downtown area of the town. The police department is part of the Utah County Sheriff's Office, which has been based in O Rem for the last seven years, and also has its own police station in the West Valley City area, which opened in the 1990s. Orem has been home to a number of professional sports teams in addition to being the home to Utah Valley University's Wolverines athletic teams. The Orem Owlz minor league baseball team, a rookie league affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, began play in 2005. The Owlz won 5 championships and had more than 90 major league players as part of the team. They relocated to Windsor, Colorado, in 2021 and became the Northern Colorado Owlz. In 1998, the Utah Catzz played their only season in the Professional Indoor Football League as the league only lasted one season. The Utah Flash was an NBA G League affiliate of. the Philadelphia 76ers that was established in 2007. The Flash were a G League professional basketball team that was based in Orem and played in the G League from 2007 to 2008. The team was a member of the NBA's New York Knicks and the NBA Development League's New Jersey Nets. They were a part of both the NBA and the Development League from 2008 to 2010. They also played a single season of indoor football in 1998. They played in a league called the PIF League. In 2011, the team was sold to the Colorado Rockies and moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 2012, the Rockies moved back to Orem to play in the Pioneer League. The Colorado Rockies moved to a new stadium in Windsor and will be known as the Colorado Springs Owlz in 2021.
